The project was driven by the goal of better understanding the community I've identified with my whole life. There appeared to be a problem of burnout and folks pushing on with climbing long after they stopped finding joy in it. I used a variety of research methods including interviews and public surveys to collect my data. This informed the possibility that it may not be climbers who are unwilling to expand their hobbies and spread their time more evenly, but rather a lack of exposure to things outside of the tight-knit community. Perhaps, if the climbing gym could be used as a platform for outside activities/communities then the hardcore climbers could add other aspects to their identities. This would not only create a more well-rounded individual but a person resilient to outside forces that may affect their hobbies.
