ELPITHA TSOUTSOUNAKIS
Assistant Professor of Design
Elpitha Tsoutsounakis is an Assistant Professor in the Multi-disciplinary Design (MDD) program at the University of Utah. She served as Associate Director of the Design program from 2017-2020 and is a founding member of the faculty. Elpitha completed a Bachelor of Science in Architecture at the University of Utah and a Master of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin. She teaches design studios, research methods, and visual strategy.
In addition to teaching, Elpitha is a designer and printer. She established the Field Studio Geontological Survey (FSGS) as a design research collective assembling and extending Ochre dimensions.She maintains a studio practice as a speculative form of product and publication, including design research, installations, and artifacts that explore our collective ecological consciousness. Her scholarship explores the role of design in community engagement to facilitate stewardship and experience of so-called public lands in the West.
Her work has recently been featured in the New York Times and Southwest Contemporary. She was named a 2023 Design Arts Fellow but the Utah Division of Arts and Museums. She currently serves on the University of Utah Digital Matters Advisory Committee, the University Public Art Advisory Committee, and is a board member at Epicenter in Green River, Utah. Her work is currently exhibited in the Time Space Existence Exhibition of the European Cultural Centre in Venice, Italy through November of 2023.
