LEAH BLUETTE SCHUTZ (SHE/HER)

DESIGN SENIOR / DES 4510 SENIOR STUDIO

This Week, Every Day; Underneath, Every Day, is a project focused on creating safe spaces to talk about our daily experiences with misogyny. Throughout this semester, I have been experimenting with the many different forms this conversation can take. The different mediums I have used to open this conversation are quilting bees, zines distributed throughout Salt Lake City and on campus, postcards, a video, a survey distributed on campus by way of posters, a collaborative quilt binding, a Stitch and Bitch event with the Women’s Resource Center on campus, and a newspaper article in the Daily Utah Chronicle.

My goal is to open conversation, provide validation, and gather community. This conversation is one that is looming in the air around us. In validating current experiences by planting a seed for continued conversation about the misogyny in peoples’ daily lives, I will be creating a stepping stone for greater personal and societal empowerment.
