U of U Design Collaborates with Adobe

Spring 2017

Spring 2017 reviews have officially begun – Design kicked off the end of the semester review period with presentations in Interaction Design (DES 4810) on Wednesday, March 29th at the Adobe campus in Lehi. This semester, the course was taught by Kristopher Paries, a Senior UX Designer at Adobe, as the catalyst for a partnership between Multi-disciplinary Design and the Adobe UX Design team to re-imagine interaction and experience design education within the design curriculum at the University of Utah.

Design students presented their final projects to the design team at Adobe who gave feedback and critique of their work. Each student identified a particular web application that they wanted to redesign, ranging from the infamous KSL Classifieds to the CIS Registration Portal for University of Utah Students. “For students who, for the most part, are brand new to the Interaction Design discipline, both my colleagues and I have been impressed with the design thinking that MDD students have brought to the new challenges that Interaction Design presents” said Paries.

Currently, students in the Design major who complete a Bachelor’s of Science in Design can pursue digital products in any of the MDD studios and take classes in interaction design as part of their degree path. In the next two years, the program will offer a digital design degree path integrated with a focus on entrepreneurial leadership in partnership with David Eccles School of Business. MDD is particularly excited to be partnering with an industry leader like Adobe in creating this vision for the future of design education.

UX design and digital product are defining our modern world. Design at the University of Utah positions students to become leaders across disciplines. Students work in the realm of digital, physical and platform design to create impact beyond the academic sphere.
