DESIGN FIELD STUDIO
The Field Studio, developed by Assistant Professor Elpitha Tsoutsounakis, responds to a wide range of issues dealing with the natural world and our human relationship to it. Working with Community Partners, students explore land stewardship of ancestral lands in the desert southwest through design practice and research.
Outcomes vary from physical, digital, to platform products both speculative and commercial. The Design program is dedicated to fostering an ethic in students that allows them to answer design questions without assuming a new object be introduced into our natural or built environment. We believe an ecological and social awareness is critical for responsible designers who will tackle a growing range of challenges for a planet in crisis.
